Reindeer

Yesterday was World AIDS Day. While I celebrated the start of Advent here in the blog, I put on my black mourning costume over at Facebook, my Day Without Art black profile picture....

But it was also a big day for poetry. I had work in two online magazines that "went live" yesterday, and I will link to those in a moment, but first I'd like to share with you "Reindeer," by Sarah J. Sloat.

Thanks to Wikipedia for the public domain photos of real reindeer/caribou.

Sloat's poem comes from the new issue of YB, dedicated to Animals! My animal poem in this issue, "Too Late," has a calico cat in it.

To make it a Random Coinciday in the blog, as well as a Poetry Someday, Sloat and I also appear together in the new issue of Umbrella, which is celebrating its 5th anniversary. Click the umbrellas to enter the issue and find the marvelous offerings! Here's the page with my 2 poems.

I had great joy yesterday, and will have a good rest of the week continuing to read all the wonderful offerings in both of these magazines!

And if you are looking for holiday gifts, keep in mind that reindeer poop makes great tree ornaments! And necklaces. Oh, yes, there's a lot you can do with reindeer poop! Check it out at the Miller Park Zoo!

I especially love the calico cat poem Kathleen. Many strays where I used to live. Lots of conversation.

Thanks, Ron. My first pet was a calico cat.

I have been ignorant of many human things,
even of myself, though I studied philosophy

and was warned.

Oh my.

All the poems wonderful, including Sloat's: I don't know her. Or didn't, rather.

Poetry continues to be the astonishment of my later years. Thanks you, and everyone! xo

Thanks, Maureen! Thanks, Dale, and I hope you will seek out Sarah Sloat's work. She is in many online magazines and has two chapbooks out now, and another one coming! Her blog is on the right in my blogroll: the rain in my purse.

The reindeer poop helped me get up the courage to ask you if you could make the links in your posts open in new windows. When you add a link there's a little box to check that says "Open this link in a new window." It would make it easier to get back to the blog after surfing around in the poems.

Text to display:

Email address
To what URL should this link go?
Test this link
Not sure what to put in the box? First, find the page on the web that you want to link to. (A search engine might be useful.) Then, copy the web address from the box in your browser's address bar, and paste it into the box above.

Good idea, and thank you for the instructions. If I can follow them, I will surely do it. There's some hope, as I managed to follow instructions and put together a Christmas tree today. Sort of. After first putting the middle on the bottom. The detail about crawling backwards in "Grasshopper and the Ant" is true. So many things have been affected since....

Thanks for the mention Kathleen. It's lovely sharing space with you. My favorite of yours was "Grasshopper and the Ant."
