I came out of the opening performance of
Earth and Sky tonight to a beautiful half moon and marvelous stars!
Earth and Sky, by Douglas Post, is playing all September at
Heartland Theatre! What a receptive audience we had, and what great performances. I worked as dramaturg on this production, and loved it! I'll be there almost every night to give the curtain speech. The play is a "poetic thriller" with a strong woman at its center, and plenty of surprises.
Somehow it fits that the new poetry feature up today at
Escape Into Life is
Susan Blackwell Ramsey, with powerful paintings by
Kelly Reemstem. This one is called
Task at Hand. I know I'd sometimes like a chainsaw available for the task at hand. Or at least a recycling bin.

Thanks, Maureen! Yes, I love the paintings themselves and how the titles--which you can see if you click the artist's name--tell a darkly funny story.
And I love the juxtaposition with Ramsey, whose poems contain humor, wit, and knowledge, and how they juggle reality, joy, and despair. The way a woman in a nice dress might juggle power tools.
I haven't even made it to the poetry yet, but the painting have totally rescued my day! Barbie with power tools rocks.
